CCTV footage shows an injured Lee stumbling towards a parked car with his hazard lights on and lifting his shirt to show his injury; the car immediately drove off, after which Lee collapsed on the ground. Police arrived 6 minutes later after he called 911 and found him unconscious. He was taken to a local hospital but later died from his injuries.

Nima was arrested on April 13, 2023 around 5 a.m. in his apartment in Emeryville. He was arrested at 9 a.m. on suspicion of murder. He will be arraigned on April 14 and charged with first degree murder.

In 2008 he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence which he did not contest and was sentenced to six days in jail. In 2013, he was arrested for driving with a suspended license and pleaded no contest. He was fined $154 and had to take a course.
