A couple who had been on the run since 2020 for murder and rape were apprehended this week in Mexico, officials say. Araceli Medina and Edgar Salvador Casian-Garcia are currently being held in a Mexican prison pending extradition to the United States.
Following the discovery of two of Casian-Biological Garcia’s daughters abandoned at a gas station in Tijuana, Mexico, an investigation into the alleged murderous couple has been launched. The girls were severely physically and sexually abused, according to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, and they were from Pasco, Washington (NCMEC). The 8 and 3 year old sisters were taken into custody.

The girls came to the attention of Washington-based investigators six months after their discovery in Mexico. Police determined that the sisters also had a brother named Edgar Jr. as soon as they recognized the surname. The 7-year-old was missing when investigators went to the family’s home, but Casian-Garcia and Medina reportedly claimed the youngster was staying with his two sisters and birth mother in California.
When detectives discovered that Medina and Casian-Garcia were lying, it was already too late as the couple had fled to Mexico with Medina’s four biological children and their infant son. Along with the five other children the parents had fled with, Edgar Jr. was instantly the target of a search by NCMEC and the US Marshals Service.
According to detectives, the couple either stayed in Mexico or eventually traveled to Canada. Weeks turned into months, months turned into years, and then there was a terrible rift in the case. Hikers discovered human remains in February 2022, about 15 minutes from the couple’s home in Washington. The remains belonged to Edgar Jr., according to dental records.
