A third consecutive Test match in India saw a three-day ending and with it came growing criticism. 30 wickets fell in the first two days of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series match at Indore before Australia secured an emphatic victory at nine wickets on the third morning. After the match, ICC delivered a harsh verdict on the Indore ground calling it ‘poor’, followed by a scathing attack from veteran cricketers. Among them was a former Indian manager who accused the hosts of producing a rampaging turner in their ‘desperation’ to advance to the Test World Championship final.

After two consecutive victories, India retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the fourth consecutive time. The 2-0 lead also knocked India out of the WTC Finals for the second time in a row. But they had to win in Indore to qualify.

However, it was an eliminated Australian team that produced a stunner on the Indore turner to put India’s chances on hold while securing their place in the WTC summit clash.

Speaking to India News, Saba Karim slammed the hosts for making such pitches where none of the top hitters – ‘Steve Smith and Virat Kohli’ – could play. He then lambasted India for losing ‘the spirit of Test cricket’ in desperation for the final.

“Australia has Steve Smith and India has Virat Kohli, arguably the two best hitters in world cricket. But we haven’t been able to see their hitter in this series. What are we trying to prove by fabricating such meters,” he told India News.

“In our desperation to qualify for the WTC Finals, we have lost the spirit of Test cricket. We have No. 1 and No. 2 teams competing here. It would have been a joy to see them play if the competition was between all aspects of test cricket.

India still have hopes of qualifying for the WTC finals, given that they beat Australia in the final match in Ahmedabad next week.
