We start with the event that will bring over 1,000 participants – plus spectators, organizers and volunteers – to Alki this morning:

WEST SEATTLE 5K RETURNS: The run/walk presented by and for the West Seattle High School PTSA is back for the first time since 2019, and organizers say more than 1,000 people have signed up to run/walk the waterfront route. They will run from 61st/Alki to Luna/Anchor Park and back , so Alki/Harbor Avenues will be closed starting around 8am. Last-minute check-in and package pickup begins at 8:30 a.m.; pre-race warm-ups at 9:15 a.m.; then the WS5K starts at 9:30. The streets will reopen when the course is clear, which should be at 11 a.m.

BATTLE FOR WEST SEATTLE: The first-ever softball showdown between the West Seattle Chamber of Commerce And West Seattle Junction Association is a fundraiser for the West of Seattle And white center food banks. You can encourage the latest act of community giving from local businesses by going to Steve Cox Memorial Park (1321 SW 102nd, White Center) at noon. See the lists here; ticket information is here.

CLOSURE OF MYERS WAY: SDOT plans to keep Myers between Olson and 2nd closed all day as part of continued repaving work that began Saturday.

WEST SEATTLE FARMERS MARKET: 10am-2pm; the market offers spring produce as well as flowers, cheese, fish, meat, baked goods, condiments, fresh cooked meals, beverages (from kombucha to beer/wine), nuts , plant shoots, etc. Here is the list of today’s suppliers. SOUL SPA: inner alchemy hosts soul spas on Sunday at Jet City Laboratories (4547 California SW) during Farmer’s Market hours, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: “A fun community experience of meeting our talented local healers, makers, and artists right next to the Farmer’s Market.” Mini-sessions, shopping, hook-up and Timmy’s cooking brunch!”

DONATION CAMPAIGN: Men’s workwear is a priority for today’s fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Alki UCC (6115 SW Hinds):

Most of the men we help are in day labor through the Millionair Club, Casa Latina, Labor Ready, or pickup jobs. Help us help them support their families with your donations of clean, wearable, seasonal workwear: pants, hoodies, t-shirts, socks, boots, shorts, tank tops, plus new underwear. – clothes, belts, hats, all kinds of shoes (except dress shoes!).

Donations of food, clothing and outdoor gear are being distributed through the Westside Interfaith Network’s Saturday luncheon, hosted at White Center.

LOW-LOW TIDE: Good enough to walk the beach again today, -2.4 feet at 12:40 p.m.
