No, the Seattle Utilities the workers near 45th/Wildwood were no longer there for a water break. This time it’s related to Fauntleroy Creek; thanks to the creek steward Judy Pickens to explain. She says they were working on a partial blockage of the culvert that carries the creek underground in the area. Judy says SPU started assessing the situation a few weeks ago and then came to work on it today. The blockage had created a “duck pond” about 12 feet deep and they had to drain some of that water to get to the culvert itself. The creek volunteers keep watch to make sure the creek fry are not disturbed – as Judy notes: “This is a tricky time for the creek fish. The smolts headed into the salt water earlier than last year and we have a lot of hatching in the lower creek. She says that culvert was blocked before, about a decade ago. SPU has had a culvert replacement project on the drawing board for years.
