On Wednesday morning in Birmingham, a distressing incident took place at a fire station where two firefighters were shot dead.
Firefighters were performing their routine morning maintenance activities at North 27th Street Station 9 in the Norwood area.
At the time, the bay door was open and one or more people entered the building, as Police Chief Scott Thurmond shared.
The shooting happened inside the station around 8:30 a.m., as reported by Captain Orlando Reynolds.
Reynolds said both firefighters were taken to UAB Hospital in serious condition. Currently, police suspect that this shooting was specifically targeted.
So far, no one has been apprehended in connection with the incident. Thurmond expressed deep concern, describing the situation as very troubling.
