The Script guitarist Mark Sheehan dies aged 46
Irish musician Mark Sheehan, who was guitarist and co-founder of The Script, has died aged 46. The group announced the tragic news on Twitter.
After a brief illness, the talented musician breathed his last in hospital, according to an official statement from the Irish rock band.
The band also asked for privacy during this sad time.
“Mark Sheehan, beloved husband, father, brother, bandmate and friend, died today in hospital after a brief illness. The family and the band ask fans to respect their privacy at this tragic time. »
The guitarist was due to join his band later this year to support P!nk for their European tour.
Sheehan is survived by his wife of 20 years, Rina, and their three children.

He was married to his wife for two decades
Mark Sheehan was a happily married man who loved his family. He lived in the United States with his wife Rina and their three children.
The couple preferred to keep their personal lives out of the public eye. Along with being a member of The Script, Sheehan also valued her privacy and made sure to protect her family from the attention that came with fame.
Rina, originally from Texas, met her late husband when she joined the band as a backing vocalist after moving to the United States.
Describing how he met his wife in 2008, he told the Irish Mirror:
“Rina is from Texas, we met on the road. I was producing and working in different studios. We just kind of clicked in the usual way you do.
They exchanged their wedding vows in a private ceremony in 2005. The couple welcomed their first child, Cameron, in 2008, followed by Avery and Lil.
He was known to be a family man and missed nearly a year of gigs in 2021 and early 2022 to spend time with his in-laws. Lead singer Danny O’Donoghue said at the time:
“His children needed a father and his wife needed a husband.”
Tributes poured in for Mark Sheehan
After the band announced the sudden passing of Mark Sheehan, tributes started pouring in for the Irish rock star.
Ireland’s President Michael D Higgins wrote a long and heartfelt tribute on his official website describing him as an “outstanding” example of Irish musical success.
“All who knew Mark Sheehan, and those millions of others who loved and appreciated his music, will have been deeply shocked to learn of his death too soon.”
He added:
“It was a mark of the originality and excellence that Mark and his bandmates in The Script were after that they had seen such success around the world, including six UK number one albums and a number three album in the US – a truly remarkable achievement.”
Irish presenter Laura Whitmore posted on Instagram:
“Thinking of all of you right now. Mark was one of the nicest, most talented men you could ever meet.
Irish rock band Kodaline also posted on Twitter:
“I am truly sorry to learn of the passing of Mark Sheehan. We have been blessed to spend time with him over the years and have always been a lovely man. Our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. @thescript brothers.
Jedward, a famous Irish pop duo wrote:
“Everyone in the Irish music industry and around the world mourns your loss RIP Mark, such a talented musician from The Script, one of the most iconic Irish bands of our generation.”
