Potts received his bachelor’s degree from Humboldt State University with a minor in radio/television and a major in journalism/editorial writing. Potts was the host of Good Day New York on WNYW in the 1990s. In 1997 he moved from New York to Los Angeles after signing a one-year contract with ABC/Buena Vista Television to develop a talk show . However, the driver that followed was not recovered. After that, he signed a development deal with Paramount Television and left for NBC, where he spent the next 13 seasons on Access Hollywood.
