Susan Benedetto remembers her husband Tony Bennett
Tony Bennettthe wife of Suzanne Benedetto paid him a special tribute husband who died at age 96 Friday.
Susan and Bennett’s son, Danny Bennett, shared a photo of Tony playing at his 95th anniversary at Radio City Music Hall on August 2, 2021and said in a joint statement on Friday,
“Thank you to all of Tony’s fans, friends and colleagues who celebrated his life and humanity and shared their love for him and his musical legacy,”
“From his first performances as a singing waiter in Queens to his final performances in 2021 at Radio City Music Hall, Tony was thrilled to perform the songs he loved and make people happy,”
They concluded on a touching note,
“And as sad as today has been for all of us, we can find joy in Tony’s legacy forever.”

On Friday, representatives for the 20-time Grammy winner confirmed his death to People, saying:
“Tony Bennett, born Anthony Dominick Benedetto in Astoria, Queens on August 3, 1926, died in his hometown of New York at the age of 96 earlier today”,
“The beloved singer, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2016, is survived by his marrySusan Benedetto, her two sons, Danny and Dae Bennett, her daughters Johanna Bennett and Antonia Bennett and 9 grandchildren.
Benedetto first met Tony in the late 80s after one of his gigs. The couple date for 20 years before getting married in a secret ceremony in 2007.
After they were married, Susan took her husbandlegal last name instead of his stage name.

Tony lived with Alzheimer’s disease for many years
The Benedetto family announced in January 2021 that the singer had been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease since 2016.
Following the diagnosis, Susan became her primary caregiver while continuing her charitable work in arts education.
Despite the illness, Susan revealed that her husband remained in good spirits.
She told AARP The Magazine at the time,
“He does so many things, at 94, that a lot of people without dementia can’t do. He is truly a beacon of hope for someone with a dementia.”
Bennett continued to perform on stage until 2021. During his career spanning more than eight decades, he has won several prestigious awards.
Many stars and fans mourned the loss of such a great talent.

Nil Rodgers shared a photo of the late musician on Twitter and wrote,
“My deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Tony Bennett,”
Stevie Van Zandt writing,
“The last of the legends. A man whose heart was as big as his voice. The world’s foremost practitioner of “The Art of Excellence”. Deepest love and condolences to my friend Danny and the family.
