Hulu has debuted the trailer for its upcoming workplace-meets-horror series The Other Black Girl, based on the 2021 best-selling novel by Zakiya Dalila Harris.
The series comes from Onyx Collective and stars Sinclair Daniel (Insidious: The Red Door) as Nella, an editorial assistant who is the only Black woman at a mostly-white publishing company. Nella toils to climb the corporate ladder while her superiors seem to notice her only while asking for coffee orders.
Nella is tired of being the only Black girl at the office and gets excited when Hazel, another Black woman, gets hired. “Wagner is just…you’ll see,” Nella warns Hazel.
“Girl,” Hazel knowingly replies.

As Nella gears up for a promotion and befriends Hazel (played by Ashleigh Murray), she notices sinister things happening at the publishing company and starts to spiral out of control.
After finding a note in her pocket that says “Leave Wagner Now,” and thinking she sees Hazel outside of her apartment one night, Nella says: “I feel like I’m completely losing my mind,” in the trailer.
The video also shows her walking by a wall at the company with framed pictures of executives (who are all white) and they seem to start talking to her.
The trailer ends with Nella telling a friend, “I know that this sounds like a conspiracy theory…”
“Yeah but every conspiracy about white people being whack ends up being true in like 20 years,” he responds.
Brittany Adebumola, Hunter Parrish, Bellamy Young, Eric McCormack, and Garcelle Beauvais also co-star in the series.
Onyx Collective is part of Disney and brings projects from creators of color and underrepresented voices to audiences on Hulu.
The series is executive produced by author Zakiya Dalila Harris, Rashida Jones, Adam Fishbach, Jordan Reddout, Gus Hickey, Tara Duncan, and Temple Hill’s Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey.
The Other Black Girl premieres all 10 episodes Sept. 13 on Hulu.
