A tattoo artist has gone blind after his jealous ex attacked him with drain cleaner because she couldn’t stand him touching other women’s bodies.
The couple reportedly broke up over her obsession with him tattooing customers’ breasts and buttocks.
When they separated four months ago, she told him she was ‘praying to God’ for him to go blind.
Next, ink artist Leandro Coelho Marques was confronted by his ex as he left a gymnasium in the town of Campo Grande, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, on February 22.
His 41-year-old ex – named Sonia Obelar Gregor – confronted him about their breakup.
Then, without warning, she threw a nearly three-litre jug of caustic soda in his face.
Leandro, 30, tried to flee on a motorbike, but lost his sight after a few meters and fell.
He lay in agony on the tarmac, his helmet melting on his face as bystanders tried to help him by spraying him with water until firefighters arrived.
He was hospitalized in critical condition in Santa Casa de Campo Grande, where he was at the time of the report.
His attacker, meanwhile, fled.
Leandro’s sister, Jaqueline, said in a video uploaded: “The ophthalmologist has already confirmed that my brother will never see again.”
The Civil Police of Campo Grande is investigating the case.
Leandro’s family believe his ex attacked him because she couldn’t accept that their relationship was over and that his profession made her extremely jealous.
Jacqueline said: “My brother is a tattoo artist, it’s his job and we know there is no choice as to where to tattoo someone.
“It’s the client who chooses, whether it’s the buttocks, the breasts or elsewhere.
“My brother broke up with her because she was sick with jealousy, to the point of breaking things inside the house, valuable things like the TV and the vending machine.”
The head of the investigation, Felipe Madeira, told local media: “Leandro said his ex-partner was very jealous, excessively jealous of his clients.
“The guy said his ex was even stalking clients tattooed by Leandro.
“When they ended their relationship, the woman said she was ‘praying to God that he would go blind’.”
Madeira added, “Leandro commented that the substance worked very quickly.
“The victim said the suspect arrived with a 1.5 liter (2.6 pint) canister of corrosive liquid and threw it in his face.
“As soon as the suspect threw it, Leandro lost his sight and his skin started to burn.
“Right now the victim appears to be stable, but he is really blind.
“Leandro said he couldn’t make out shapes, see people’s faces, and only had visual perception of shadows.”
Police continue to search for the suspect, who is charged with causing grievous bodily harm.
