Qualcomm launches Snapdragon X35 modem to bring 5G to more things

Qualcomm has taken the next step in its journey of connecting everything, everywhere, at once. The company has announced the Snapdragon X35 5G Modem-RF(Opens in a new window) system, which it claims is the world’s first “NR light” connectivity platform. It features a smaller, streamlined design with a mission to bring 5G to more devices in more places.

It targets agriculture, construction, mining, education, connected healthcare, manufacturing, retail, smart cities, and AR/VR. Potential devices include laptops and connected PCs, sensors, surveillance cameras, health monitors, routers, tablets, and high-end wearables.

The Snapdragon X35 has been optimized to reduce cost, reduce complexity and improve efficiency in the smallest possible form factor. Qualcomm didn’t share its actual measurements, but said it’s significantly smaller than existing modem solutions like the Snapdragon X70. The idea is to make it easier and faster for device makers to take advantage of the growing global availability of 5G.

The X35 is based on the 3GPP Release 17 RedCap modem which allows it to maintain low thermals for compact devices. The modem relies on 5G bands below 6 GHz and does not support mmWave. It supports a single 20 MHz channel and is capable of peak download speeds of 220 Mbps and upload speeds of 100 Mbps. While it might not be much faster than what’s already available on today’s 4G LTE networks, Qualcomm is positioning the X35 as a future-proof solution as 4G networks die out over time.

It offers accurate location tracking. With dual-band (L1+L5) GPS support, the X35 can provide refined positioning results. This would be ideal for devices like smartwatches.

Qualcomm says the X35 is now sampling to select customers and expects the modem to reach end-user devices in the first half of 2024.

The UK iGaming industry has grown in size over the past decade and continues to do so. With the rise of technology and the growing popularity of online games, the industry has grown significantly and is now one of the largest and most lucrative in the world.

In general, iGaming is a highly competitive market with many companies operating in it. These companies offer a wide range of services, including online casino games, sports betting, bingo and poker, the UK online casino comparison portal reported.

With the growing popularity of online games, there has been a significant increase in the number of new players joining the industry. This resulted in increased competition and led to a wider range of products and services offered to customers.

One of the key factors contributing to the growth of the UK iGaming industry is the regulatory and licensing system in place. The UK Gambling Commission is responsible for regulating the industry and ensuring that all companies operating in it adhere to strict standards. This includes measures to prevent gambling addiction, protect minors and ensure the security of players’ personal and financial information.

The licensing system in place in the UK is considered to be one of the strictest in the world and has helped to build the industry’s reputation for being fair, safe and secure on UK shores.

At the same time, the rise of mobile technology has also played a significant role in the growth of the UK iGaming industry. With the growing popularity of smartphones and tablets, many online gaming companies have developed mobile apps and websites that allow gamers to access their favorite games from anywhere, anytime.
This has led to a significant increase in the number of people playing online games and has helped spur the growth of the industry.

Another contributing factor to the growth of the UK iGaming industry is increased investment in marketing and advertising. Many companies in the sector have increased their marketing and advertising budgets in recent years, allowing them to reach a wider audience and attract new players.

Consequently, the number of collaborations between online game companies and other businesses such as sports teams, music festivals and TV shows has also increased significantly.

In 2023, the UK iGaming industry continues to grow due to a combination of factors including the regulatory and licensing system in place, the rise of mobile technology, increased investment in marketing and advertising and the growing popularity of online games.

With the industry expected to continue to grow in the years to come, it is likely that the UK will remain at the forefront of the online gaming world for many years to come.
