Fleischer moved to San Francisco after graduating from Wesleyan University with a major in history, where he worked as a freelance HTML programmer, unsure of what he wanted to accomplish with his life. Fleischer served as a PA in the Dawson’s Creek Writers’ Office, on the advice of close friend Mike White (also a Wesleyan graduate). He eventually became a director and rose through the ranks, directing music videos and TV commercials before landing his feature debut, Zombieland, in 2009. On August 12, 2011, his second film, 30 Minutes or Less, was released in theaters. .
Gangster Squad, a 2013 action thriller directed by Fleischer, is based on the LAPD’s special tactical force formed to take on the Los Angeles crime family. He then directed Venom, a film based on the Marvel Comics character Eddie Brock which starred Tom Hardy and was released on October 5, 2018. He directed Zombieland: Double Tap in 2019, reuniting the original four leads. He was hired to direct Uncharted, a film based on the video game franchise of the same name, in February 2020. He was hired to direct Now You See Me 3 in September 2022.
