Rachel Zegler denounces the “absurd” criticism of the cast of “Snow White”

Rachel Zegler talks about the reviews she and the cast of Disney’s upcoming live-action movie, snow Whiteare faced.

Since it was announced in 2021 that Zegler would lead the cast of snow Whitethe New Jersey native of Colombian and Polish descent has repeatedly had to deal with racist comments over her portrayal of the fictional character.

Over the weekend, the Golden Globe-winning actress began to face intense scrutiny when the Daily mail released a series of alleged photos from the upcoming film in a report titled “Snow White and the Seven…Politically Correct Companions? »

The photos featured a cast of actors of various sizes, races and genders who allegedly portray the film’s seven dwarfs.

At first, a Disney spokesperson denied the authenticity of the photos, calling them “fake” in a statement to The daily beast. However, a representative from Disney’s PR team later provided an update confirming that while the images were real, they were not official “stills” from the set of the film.

As the casting choices for the Seven Dwarfs began to receive backlash on social media, comments surfaced about casting a Latina as Snow White.

Despite the negativity, Zegler chose to thank her supportive fans. Expressing her gratitude for the outpouring of love, the 22-year-old also clarified that she no longer wishes to engage in the controversy surrounding her casting.

“I’m extremely grateful for the love I feel from those who stand up for me online, but please don’t tag me in the nonsense speech about my casting,” said the West Side Story the actress wrote on Twitter. “I really, really don’t want to see him.”

Instead, Zegler decided to focus on a more positive message, sharing four childhood photos of herself dressed as various Disney Princesses, including Snow White.

Alongside the photos, Zegler wrote, “So I leave you with these photos! I hope every child knows they can be a princess no matter what.
