Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have led a very different life from the rest of the royal family since leaving the UK for California in 2020. They have settled into a beautiful house in Montecito where they now raise their two children , Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Archie was born in the UK and was lucky enough to know his relatives (although he doesn’t remember meetings) while Harry and Meghan were still living there for the first year of his life. Lilibet, however, has yet to travel to the UK and has never even met Harry’s family. Now the two children will not attend King Charles’ coronation in May, which is something of a “sorry” for the royal couple.

Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet are not close to the royal family
Archie was born in London in 2019, about a year before Harry and Meghan left the royal family to pursue a new life in North America. During this time, Archie lived on the grounds of Windsor Castle with his parents, and he certainly got to know the other members of the royal family quite well. Although he was too young to remember, he spent time with his great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, and his grandfather, King Charles, and even met his cousins, the Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Yet the royal children are not close to their cousins.
Lilibet has yet to meet the royal family. Although they named her after Queen Elizabeth, the young royal is only one year old and hasn’t been to the UK to meet her grandfather, uncle William and aunt Kate, or his cousins. She also never had the chance to meet Queen Elizabeth.

Royal expert feels ‘sorry’ for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children
Now, as the coronation approaches, Harry and Meghan have announced that Meghan will be staying home in California with her children while Harry attends his father’s ceremony. Of course, traveling with a one-year-old and nearly four-year-old is certainly not easy, and no one blames the couple for keeping the kids at home. Yet royal expert Gyles Brandreth says he is “sorry” the children have to miss such an important family event.
“In some ways, I’m especially sorry for the kids,” Brandreth told Page Six. “The reason they are prince and princess is that they are the grandchildren of a reigning sovereign.” Archie and Lili missing the coronation only further alienates them from the rest of the royal family. It is not yet known whether the two children will spend more time in the UK once they are a bit older.

Meghan Markle would like to make peace for the sake of her children
Despite the drama, rumors have swirled that Meghan wants to stay in good standing with the Royal Family for the sake of her children. Meghan would like the children to have a relationship with King Charles, particularly because they don’t have a relationship with Thomas Markle, Meghan’s father, who she had a falling out with in the months leading up to her wedding.
It remains to be seen how Harry and Meghan go about making peace with the royal family. Maybe it starts with Harry attending Charles’ coronation. Harry and Meghan living in the US certainly gave them all the space they could have needed to start fresh.
