Chew Shou Zi joined ByteDance (a Chinese Internet technology company incorporated in the Cayman Islands), headquartered in Beijing, as CFO (Chief Financial Officer) in March 2021.

Chew Shou replaced former CEO Kevin A. Mayer (an American business executive, co-founder and co-CEO of Candle Media), who left the company after just 3 months as CEO.

At Harvard Business School, he spent a summer interning for Facebook. Back then, Facebook was just a startup. Chew was an investment banker at Goldman Sachs for 2 years.

He was appointed CFO of Xiaomi in 2015 and later resigned from his position in April 2020.

From Xiaomi, he joined ByteDance as CFO in March 2021. Although he only joined the company in March, Chew was offered the job of CEO of TikTok in May 2021 just 5 weeks later.

He is a married man and his wife’s name is Vivian Kao. Vivian Kao is a Chinese MBA, whom he met while attending Harvard Business School.

The couple have 2 children together. In August 2021, Chew reportedly acquired an S$86 million, 31,800 square foot bungalow in Singapore’s Queen Astrid Park area. Although Chew’s exact net worth is not known, it is estimated to be around $49.5 billion.
