Meta will rival Twitter in developing new microblogging products

Meta, Facebook’s parent company, is reportedly considering developing a standalone platform to share text updates.

The new platform, which is codenamed P92, could potentially pose a threat to Twitter, which appears to be struggling under Elon Musk’s new leadership.

The Meta spokesperson who spoke to CNN noted that the platform would be a separate space for creators and public figures to share timely updates on their interests.

Ripples Nigeria understands that Meta did not directly mention Twitter by name, but the description matches Twitter’s mission statement.

Meta noted that the project is in its early stages and is believed to have been led by Instagram executive Adam Mosseri.

Recently, many upstart platforms have tried to capitalize on Twitter’s struggles.

Meta’s plans for a new platform come as the company also shifts strategy for its older platforms, emphasizing video and recommended content to better compete with TikTok.
