In a landmark judgment, the Lagos Sexual Offenses and Domestic Violence Court sentenced Kehinde Gabriel to life imprisonment for the rape of a 3-year-old girl.
The court found him guilty of defilement after the prosecution established the essential elements of the offence.
The defendant, in case ID/8392C/2018, was described by Judge Ramon A. Oshodi as a person without truth who showed no remorse for what he did.
The judge went on to declare that the act, which violated Section 137 of the Criminal Law 2015, was unjustifiable and gave Gabriel the maximum sentence.

His name will be listed on the Sex Offender Registry maintained by the Lagos State Government.
The Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) released a statement on Tuesday, April 18, applauding the judgment and reiterating the state’s zero tolerance for such offenses.
The agency also reminded citizens that there is help for survivors and urged them to break the culture of silence and report any cases of domestic or sexual violence through its toll-free line.
The judgment is an important victory for advocates in the fight against sexual violence and child abuse.

It sends a clear message that such crimes will not be tolerated and that perpetrators will be faced to the full extent of the law.
The hope is that this will deter others who may be considering committing similar heinous acts.
