According to a statement from the Beckley Police Department, Lashawn Deondre Shelton, 26, died on April 25, 2023 from injuries sustained in a shooting on Sheridan Avenue in Beckley that occurred on April 22.
Shelton was taken to a Charleston hospital after the shooting.

New information regarding the shooting in Beckley on Saturday evening has been released by Deputy Chief Dave Allard of the Beckley Police Department.
In a press release, it was stated that on April 22, 2023, officers responded to a report of shots being fired on Sheridan Avenue near 7th Street.
Upon arrival, two wrecked cars were discovered and three black male victims of gunfire were found on the ground outside the vehicles.
When authorities arrived at the scene on Sheridan Avenue in Beckley, they found two wrecked cars and three gunshot victims outside one of the vehicles.
Witnesses reported that three black men were seen fleeing the scene before police arrived, leaving the other car empty.
According to Deputy Chief Dave Allard of the Beckley Police Department, multiple firearms and approximately 100 shell casings were found around the scene, indicating both cars were involved in the shootings.

According to Deputy Chief Allard, witnesses reported that three black men fled the scene before police arrived.
Police found several firearms and about 100 casings fired near the cars and the street. One of the victims, a 26-year-old man, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, while the other two victims, ages 23 and 26, were taken to a Charleston hospital and remain in critical condition.
Detectives are investigating whether the shooting is linked to the death of Malique Medley, who was killed in a shooting two blocks away on April 20.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact the Beckley Police Department or West Virginia Crime Stoppers, and a cash reward may be awarded for information leading to an arrest.
