A young driver killed a teenage girl in a traffic accident while she was under a cocktail of illegal drugs and alcohol, a court heard. Keilan Roberts, 22, allegedly consumed cocaine, ketamine and ecstasy before driving his Skoda Octavia, in addition to having exceeded the alcohol consumption limit.
Passenger Chloe Hayman, 17, died in the crash last year after spending a night out with friends in South Wales. Roberts appeared at Newport Magistrates’ Court charged with four counts in the mountain road tragedy in Fochriw, Caerphilly.
He was charged with causing death while allegedly out of shape due to alcohol and drugs. Roberts, from Rhymney, has been released on bail to appear at Cardiff Crown Court next month. Family and friends have paid tribute to ‘beautiful’ Chloe, living in nearby Mountain Ash, who posted selfies with friends online hours before the tragedy.
She was a passenger in the beige car when it crashed in July last year. In a statement, the family said: ‘We cannot believe our beautiful and loving daughter, a kind and caring sister to three little brothers, was kidnapped at such a young age.
“From the day Chloe was born, she was a fiercely strong and determined girl who was beautiful inside and out. “Chloe lived her life to the fullest and brought so much joy and happiness to each. “There was never a dull moment when Chloe was around.
“Chloe brought happiness and love wherever she went and she was loved by all who knew her, she will be sorely missed by all who knew her and were lucky enough to know her.”
Our lives will never be the same without her. Her mother, Danielle Ohalloran, her father, Gavin Hayman, and her three younger siblings, Jac, 13, Joshua, eight, and Alfie, six, were comforted by friends and family.
