Giannone is chief presenter at BBC World News TV. She began her career as a journalist while still in college. She edited student magazine Varsity magazine in Cambridge, which led to work experience at Anglia Television, and after graduating in 1997 she joined regional station ITV in Norwich as a news intern, producing, reporting and presenting regional news bulletins. In 1999, her language and broadcasting skills helped her land a role as a journalist and presenter for Channel 4’s Football Italia series, where she covered the Italian football scene for a season, flying between the UK and Italy every week. She returned to Anglia in 2000 as a presenter and reporter, this time for the Eastern Region program covering Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex. She also followed troops from the region for a series of reports in Afghanistan in 2002.

Giannone then moved to London to present various shifts for Sky News, before joining BBC News in 2005. His work assignments included a stint presenting World News Today on Washington’s BBC World News channel at 10:00 p.m. EST in July/August 2008. She also presented live coverage from South Africa following the death of Nelson Mandela in 2013.

From March 3, 2014, Giannone presented live coverage on the BBC News Channel during the trial of Oscar Pistorius in Pretoria, South Africa. She anchored the BBC’s coverage of the French presidential elections in 2017 from Paris, the Italian elections in 2018 from Rome and the Indian elections from Delhi in 2019.

Giannone was the regular presenter of BBC World News from 07:00 to 10:00 GMT on Wednesdays and Thursdays, including programs such as Worklife with Sally Bundock at 8:30 in the UK, Fridays from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Sundays from 6:00 to 11:00 p.m. ( including World News Today at 9:00 p.m. on BBC News Channel).

On 2 February 2023, it was confirmed that Giannone – alongside many other national BBC News Channel presenters – would lose their presenting roles as part of the revived BBC News Channel.
