Johnny Depp had the experience of a lifetime at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
The actor received a standing ovation from the attendees for seven long minutes despite the criticism.
After the premiere of the French biographical drama Jeanne DuBarry on the festival’s opening night on Tuesday, the actor became quite emotional as the audience applauded his performance as King Louis XV.
Variety reported that the Pirates of the Caribbean actor tried to hold back tears as he waved and expressed his gratitude to the cheering audience from a balcony inside the Grand Theater Lumiere.
Maïwenn, who directed the film and also plays the character of the king’s lover, also became so moved that he cried good tears and said into the microphone:

“I want to share this moment with my lover, with my producer, with Le Pacte. It was a production that was difficult to fund…and I want to share this moment with my entire team across theatre.”
It was one of Johnny’s few appearances since winning his highly publicized court case against ex-wife Amber Heard.
While thousands of loving, screaming fans arrived at the popular annual South of France film party with signs of support and requests for autographs, there were people who were unhappy with his presence there. -down.

This is Johnny’s first big appearance since winning his libel case
He won the highly publicized libel suit against Heard who accused him of abuse. Although the jury mostly ruled in favor of the 59-year-old actor last summer, some of Amber’s friends are still supporting her.
Aquaman’s friend, journalist Eve Barlow who lives in Spain with the actress called the event to “their story [of] support rapists and abusers,” adding “#CannesYouNot.”
However, Cannes director Thierry Fremaux said it was his decision to include Depp at the event and to open his film saying he didn’t care about the actor’s legal issues.

At a press conference, he said:
“I don’t know the image of Johnny Depp in the United States”
“To tell you the truth, in my life, I have only one rule: it is the freedom to think, the freedom of expression and the freedom to act within a legal framework.”
“If Johnny Depp had been banned from acting in a movie, or if the movie was banned, we wouldn’t be here to talk about it.”
Thierry added,
“If there’s anyone in the world who hasn’t found the slightest interest in this highly publicized trial, it’s me.
“I don’t know what it is. I also care about Johnny Depp as an actor.
