May Pang talks about her relationship with John Lennon
May Pang opened up about her love life with John Lennon in a new documentary titled Last weekend which will be released on April 13.
In 1973, Pang was living every Beatles fan’s dream. She first worked for John Lennon and his then-wife Yoko Ono as personal secretary. During the couple’s marriage breakdown, Pang began dating the Beatles singer.
The first step in their romance was not an idyllic honeymoon for the 23-year-old. Pang, now 72, reveals in her new documentary that she cried the first time she and Lennon slept together.
She says,
“I didn’t know where it was going to lead”
“I was like, ‘What’s going to happen?’ I was very happy to work. [But] he kept saying, “I don’t know where this is going to lead, but let’s just take the leap.”“

From there, the two embarked on an 18-month romance from 1973 to 1975. Lennon later called it his “lost weekend, a reference to the 1945 Billy Wilder film.
Although their affair turned into love, the origin became less than traditional.
John, who was 10 years older than Pang, was married to Yoko, now 90, for four years. Then their marriage took a hit.
During the break, Ono said she wanted some time off. She then wanted May to be with Lennon as a girlfriend.
May said,
“I refused,”
“I respected their marriage. I said, ‘That’s not what I want to do.’ I was very happy as a worker.

May and Lennon were romantically involved until his death
Despite her reluctance, the Imagine singer had “charmed the pantsand the two began a relationship and even moved to New York in 1974.
They even traveled to Los Angeles with their friends like Harry Nilsson, Ringo Star, And Mick Jagger.
Pang recalled,
“He was just an interesting person. He really loved everything and wanted to explore,”

“He loved getting up, having his coffee in the morning. He liked blueberry pancakes, he liked swimming. He was just a great person who wanted to discover things.
The new lovebirds even bonded over music “the only thing that [Lennon] liked the most. The two even spent time playing with Lennon’s teammates Paul McCartney and George Harrison.
May recalled,
“George once said, ‘I’m so glad you’re with John’, and it was a nice thing of him to tell me. »
Although Lennon agreed to divorce Ono in 1974, it never happened and they saved their marriage in 1975.
The split has been extremely difficult for May who feels “There were none“feeling of closure. The two enjoyed romantic time over the next half-decade until the singer’s tragic death in 1980.
