Governor Okowa justifies the creation of three universities in the Delta and denounces the criticisms

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State said he has no regrets establishing three more universities in the state.

The governor was responding to criticism leveled against him by his opponents regarding said universities, saying the measure was to help the citizens of Deltan.

All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate Ovie Omo-Agege has reportedly criticized Okowa for allegedly underdeveloped the state.

Okowa, who responded to the criticism in a statement to Asaba on Monday, insisted he did not regret his decision to establish the universities.

The governor slammed the critics and accused them of selfish intentions.

The statement reads: “I do not regret the creation of three new universities. To date, four universities are functional in Delta State.

“Those who criticize me for wanting to be governor of this state and tell the Deltans lies about the three new universities are doing so for selfish reasons.

“The three new universities made the first and second student admissions of no less than 5,000 students.

“The important thing is that I brought education closer to my people. The tuition fees of these institutions are low compared to other institutions.

“As the federal government keeps students at home during an eight-month strike, universities in Delta State continue to graduate students while others move on to the next class”
