Fox host blames Trump’s ‘brute force’ for fentanyl spikes

Fox News host Geraldo Rivera said former President Donald Trump was responsible for inflaming the fentanyl overdose crisis with his “brute force” policies on Mexico.

During a Fox News segment on rising fentanyl imports, Rivera pointed to recent Republican calls to bomb Mexico.

“But I think the real reason they’re coming down, I think you alluded to, is these threats, these various threats coming from everyone from Donald Trump to Dan Crenshaw, from Tom Cotton to Lindsey Graham, that they’re gonna bomb Stone Age Mexico,” he said, “that they’re, you know, they’re gonna target cartels like they’re enemy aliens, declare them organizations terrorists and really use brute force to eliminate the role they play in taking these chemicals from China and mixing this witch brew that has caused so many deaths, over 70,000 last year alone, just from fentanyl, you know, the synthetic opioid that’s in everything.”

Rivera admitted his view was “a little radical.”

“I believe that Donald Trump really, in his brute force, provoked this movement from Mexico,” he insisted. “I think the fear is that Mexico, our second largest trading partner with whom we share this enormous border, and so many millions, hundreds of millions of Americans, will trace their ancestry to Mexico and Latin America.”

“You know, they complain, Mexicans complain that it’s circular trade,” Rivera added. “They’re making fentanyl. Yeah, maybe the United States is shipping huge amounts of weapons, weapons to Mexico. So it’s this very nefarious, very malicious trade, the circular trade that’s going on.”
