Michael Cohen, the former personal attorney for former President Donald Trump, said New York prosecutors had “compelling” evidence against Trump.
Cohen made the statement during a Saturday, March 18, interview on Reverend Al Sharpton’s MSNBC show, political nation.
Trump faces what has been described as an impending indictment for a silent payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels, to keep quiet about an alleged affair with Trump.
“Nobody is above the law,” Cohen said in the interview.

The lawyer pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three years in prison in 2018, for arranging payment to Daniels.
“So if it was good enough for me to go, it should be good enough for him,” he said of Trump.
The interview was recorded shortly after the former president released a statement on social media saying he expects to be arrested within days, and urged his supporters to “Protest, take back our nation! “
“Illegal leaks from a corrupt and highly political Manhattan District Attorney’s Office…indicate that, no crime being proven…by far the most prominent Republican candidate and former President of the United States of America, will be arrested next Tuesday week,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social app on Saturday, according to Reuters.
Cohen compared the case against the former president to that against the late mobster Al Capone, who was convicted in 1931 of tax evasion.
“The law is the law, the same way under the Capone, Al Capone’s theory. They couldn’t catch him for murder, racketeering, extortion, they couldn’t catch him for smuggling or any other crime. They got it for [tax evasion].”
Cohen added that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg “is making no mistake.”
“The team putting together this file is very competent. They know all the facts,” he said.
Cohen, who has been Trump’s fixer for years, admitted he was attacked by conservative media for doing interviews critical of Trump. But the lawyer seemed unfazed.
“It’s okay. Just like when I went and testified before the House Oversight Committee, I come with the facts,” he said. “I come with the documentary evidence.”
Sharpton noted that he had been something of a spiritual advisor to Cohen for years.
“You called me to pray with you before you went to jail, and I spoke to you while you were in jail,” Sharpton said, adding “a lot of angst.”
