Elizabeth Holmes, also known as Elizabeth Anne Holmes, is an American former biotechnology entrepreneur, who was convicted of fraud.
In 2003, Elizabeth founded Theranos, a health technology company. The company claimed to have revolutionized blood testing by developing methods that could use very small volumes of blood, including from a finger prick. Holmes served as CEO of Theranos.
Holmes attended St. John’s School in Houston, where she developed an interest in computer programming. During her high school years, she started her first business selling C++ compilers to Chinese universities.
In 2002, Holmes enrolled at Stanford University and pursued studies in chemical engineering. During her studies, she worked as a student researcher and laboratory assistant at the School of Engineering. At the end of her freshman year, Holmes worked at the Genome Institute in Singapore. She also filed her first patent application on a wearable drug delivery patch in 2003.
In 2003, Holmes reported that she had been raped at Stanford. In March 2004, she dropped out of engineering school. She used her tuition money to fund a consumer health technology company. This marked the beginning of his journey as an entrepreneur.
