Former President Donald Trump’s indictment on Thursday was called “un-American” by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who also claimed the justice system had been militarized.
DeSantis said on Twitter that “the militarization of the justice system to advance a political objective subverts the rule of law.” It’s not American.
Donald Trump became the first former president to be charged with a crime when a Manhattan grand jury decided to indict him for his alleged involvement in a 2016 payout to Stormy Daniels.
Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan attorney general leading the case against Trump, has been called by DeSantis “backed by Soros,” and his handling of other criminal cases has been called into question.
The Florida governor claimed that “the Soros-backed Manhattan District Attorney has routinely broken the law to reduce offenses and justify criminal behavior.” “Yet he is now abusing the justice system to target a political rival.”
The tweet added, “Given the suspicious conditions at issue with this Soros-backed Manhattan prosecutor and his political agenda, Florida will not assist with an extradition request.
The case was derided by legal experts as legally unnecessary, and Trump’s new personal attorney, Joe Tacopina, claimed that the payment Trump made to his former attorney Michael Cohen was actually proper legal fees.
