Additionally, McCarthy reported on a man, Kirkland Warren, who was charged with two first-degree counts of shooting and killing a mother and younger daughter in Clark County after the county doctor de Clark examined the bodies.

Prior to joining KPTV, McCarthy was a reporter for KEZI 9 News in Eugene, Oregon, for two years, where he reported on the COVID-19 pandemic, the devastating 2020 Oregon fires and dozens of nights of civil unrest.
