Republicans have been criticized by former Donald Trump lawyer Michael Cohen for their “fake anger” over the prospect that the former president will soon be indicted.

Cohen insisted he wanted to see Trump held accountable for his role in Stormy Daniels’ silent money story in his interview with MSNBC anchor Alex Witt on Sunday, but he doesn’t want to see a former president handcuffed American.

Cohen said trying Trump would be “an embarrassment to our country” and that “as Americans we must respect the institution of the presidency.” Donald Trump, unfortunately, was President of the United States.

Witt went on to mention that Cohen was sentenced to three years in prison for lying to Congress and making silent payments to Daniels and Karen McDougal in violation of election laws. Cohen added, “This stuff against me from the Southern District of New York is fugazi, and what I would really like to see is outrage,” in response to individuals questioning its veracity in order to support Trump . This Republican-led “fake anger” that’s being expressed right now.

Cohen said: “Laws are universal and apply to everyone.

Nothing should change as a result. But eventually, you start hearing all that fake Republican anger. While they were doing it to me, where was the outrage? They were quiet, I guess. They are now panicked because their Supreme Leader seems to be in serious trouble. See, they’re supposed to care more about the United States and democracy than their job and the party.”
