MANILA, Philippines — After asserting himself in the floor exercise, Carlos Yulo capped off a scintillating production at the 15th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Doha, Qatar with two medals.

Yulo won a silver medal on the parallel bars and a bronze medal on the vault, two events where the Olympian from Tokyo normally finishes on the podium.

A former world champion on the vault, the 4ft 11in Dynamo scored 14.966 on his first attempt, highlighted by a double spring front pike, which scored 9.366 on the run after a clear landing.

Yulo’s second jump saw him fly over a double spin from Kasamatsu, but reaching the ground was far from perfect, giving the Filipino 14.800 and finishing with 14.883 on average.

Artur Davtyan, the reigning world champion from Armenia, dominated the event with a Dragulescu on his first jump and followed it up with a Randi knockdown, a two and a half spin, taking his combined effort to 15.083.

Igor Radivilov of Ukraine placed second averaging 14.899 for the two attempts.

Yulo punctuated the medal rush on parallel bars when he tabulated a total of 14.933, good for second place behind Ukraine’s Illia Kovtun, who won the gold medal with 14.966. The bronze medal went to Ferhat Arican from Turkiye (14.733).

Next up for Yulo is the third leg of the World Cup series in Baku, Azerbaijan from March 9-12, before wrapping up the fourth and final phase in Cairo from April 27-30.

This year’s World Cup series is a qualification for the apparatus events of the 2023 FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium, from September 30 to October 30. 8, which offers tickets for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
