Williams replaced Tim Sheridan as Friday and Saturday sports presenter on Nine News Sydney in 2010. Williams’ media career began in 1984 with a caddy job at Brisbane’s The Courier-Mail newspaper. He then moved to the Melbourne offices of The Australian, where he produced sports articles and editorials before joining the Seven Network in 1988. Williams presented Sportsworld on Seven News in addition to his work as a sportscaster. He was a presenter at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992, where he called on Australian equestrian double gold medalist Matt Ryan.

He joined Fox Sports in 1996, anchoring NRL On Fox, Dally M Awards, Super 12 Rugby, Wimbledon, Winter Olympics, Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix and Fox Sports News. Amid a scandal, Fox Sports refused to renew his contract in 2001.
