Cabinet Approves Conversion of Capt Williamson Sangma Technical University into Meghalaya’s First State University

The Meghalaya government announced on Friday that it will transform Captain Williamson Sangma Technical University into Meghalaya’s first state university.

For this, the state cabinet approved the Captain Williamson Sangma Technical University Amendment Bill. This will be tabled in the Assembly during the budgetary session.

Government Spokesman and Cabinet Minister Paul Lyngdoh said the bill proposes to change the university into the first state university of Meghalaya i.e. the state university Capt. Williamson Sangma.

Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh said, “We had established Capt. Williamson Sangma, Tura in 2011 emphasizing high quality education in engineering, life sciences, technology, including technically related courses, but today the firm has taken up the issue. to establish its first state university, which basically means we decided to bring it to the cabinet so that Captain William Sangma Technical University will now become Captain William Sangma State University.

As it is the first state university, Lyngdoh said it will offer higher education courses in the fields of humanities, commerce, general sciences, engineering, physical sciences, life sciences, technology and related subjects.

“So the proposal has been approved by the law, finance and personnel departments and our efforts now will be to try to strengthen the various departments, so that this university becomes a success story,” the minister added.

Taking to Twitter, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said, “Captain Williamson Sangma’s Technical University Amendment Bill which proposes to change the university to 1st Meghalaya State University, it that is, Captain Williamson Sangma State University, will be placed on the table of the Assembly.
