Netflix’s New Period Drama Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story turns to rapper Big Freedia for a promotional bounce.
The streamer’s Strong Black Lead division tapped the New Orleans artist to create the “Hey Queen” remix video – ahead of the show’s May 15 premiere.
The video was posted on Monday and features the “Queen of Bounce Music” with the Xavier University Marching Band and Royal Court in the rapper’s hometown.
Netflix describes director Edward Buckles’ video (HBO’s Katrina Babieslisten)) as “a nod to the importance of HBCU’s royal court culture and a love letter to New Orleans’ rich history”.

On April 15, the streamer is planning a “Spring Waltz” dance party inspired by Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story at Xavier University with a performance by Big Freedia.
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story tells how the marriage of the young queen to King George III of England sparked a love affair and a change in society.
In real life, Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz married George III in 1761. The northern German princess was rumored to have African ancestry.
THE Bridgerton the prequel series features India Amarteifio (Course of action And Sex education) as a young version of the queen.
The cast of the six-episode limited series also includes Arsema Thomas as young Lady Danbury, Michelle Fairley as Princess Augusta, Sam Clemmett as young Brimsley, Freddie Dennis as Reynolds, Richard Cunningham as Lord Bute , Tunji Kasim as Adolphus, Rob Maloney as Royal Doctor, Cyril Nri as Lord Danbury and Hugh Sachs as Brimsley. Golda Rosheuvel (Queen Charlotte), Adjoa Andoh (Lady Agatha Danbury) and Ruth Gemmell (Lady Violet) reprise their roles as Bridgerton.
