CARACHI: If there’s one thing Abu Aleeha wants to prove, it’s that Pakistani cinema is sensitive to more than the usual rom-com genre and its mission is to bring crime thrillers to the big screen. He did it with his crime thriller Kukri based on an actual serial killer Javed Iqbal and he starts again with his new film titled Taxali which will star Yasir Hussain, Ayesha Omar and Mehar Bano in the lead roles. Here’s everything we know about the new movie.
The crime thriller, written and directed by Abu Aleeha, is set in Lahore and features an ensemble cast that will also include Nayyer Ejaz, Iffat Omar, Iftikhar Thakur, Babar Ali, Umar Aalam and Sheheryar Cheema. While the cast has been pretty tight-lipped about the project, Ayesha Omar has revealed a first look at what has been described as a “multi-dimensional character”. The footage gives fans a glimpse of how important Lahore’s location is to the film itself, which Abu Aleeha also insisted on.
While a release date for Taxali was not announced, it was hinted that Eid al-Adha. If so, the new film will arrive shortly after Yasir Hussain and Ayesha Omar’s previous project. kukri which is due out on June 2. Adding to the excitement of the new film is how pumped up the cast is and how they can’t stop singing praises about everyone’s performances. Yasir Hussain called it a “pleasure” to work with Ayesha Omar for the third time and Ayesha Omar said she was “admiring” Meher Bano’s “beautiful energy and your beautiful spirit”.
