Chicago police say a drive-by shooting in West Garfield Park overnight left one dead and four injured.
Authorities were called to the scene in the 4000 block of West Washington Street shortly after 2 a.m. in response to a reported shooting.
Upon arrival, they discovered a 40-year-old woman who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. She was quickly transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
In addition to the death, four other people were injured in the shooting.
A 38-year-old woman was shot in the buttocks and is currently in fair condition at Stroger Hospital.
Similarly, a 39-year-old man was struck in the arm and is being treated at Stroger Hospital in fair condition.
Another 38-year-old man was shot in the thigh and is also in fair condition at Stroger Hospital.
Finally, a 42-year-old man sustained leg and foot injuries and is currently in fair condition at Mt. Sinai Hospital.
According to police, one of the victims provided information that the shooter was inside a vehicle when the shots rang out.
However, there is no immediate description of the car available at this time. At this time, no one has been arrested in connection with the incident.
The investigation is being actively pursued by Area Four detectives and is still ongoing.
