According to the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Norton Police Department, a man tragically lost his life in what appears to be a road rage shooting on Interstate 76 near State Route 21 in Norton.
Initially, Norton Police and Ohio Highway Patrol were called to the scene of a single-car accident on eastbound I-76 near the Easton Road overpass around 5:35 p.m. Wednesday.
Upon arrival, they discovered that the driver had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
The individual who tragically lost his life has been identified as George Jensen, 40, of Akron.
After sustaining serious injuries, Jensen was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General, where he succumbed to his injuries at approximately 6:15 p.m.
According to the medical examiner’s office, Jensen was traveling east on I-76 near State Route 21 when an occupant of another vehicle fired multiple shots at his vehicle.
As a result, Jensen’s vehicle came to rest after hitting the concrete median.
According to Norton police, a road rage incident occurred prior to the shooting involving Jensen and another driver driving a black 2018 or newer Chevy Camaro.
As the two vehicles were traveling on I-76, the driver of the Camaro fired several shots at Jensen’s car as it passed.
Allison Jensen, the widow of George Jensen, said Thursday that her husband strongly condemns the type of gun violence that tragically claimed his life on Wednesday.
She described him as a kind and empathetic person, noting his intelligence and his love for animals. Jensen’s untimely fate was deeply unjust, according to his grieving widow.
She noted that she became concerned when he did not arrive home at the usual time, indicating that something was wrong.
